Abstract

Humans are not born with the ability to read, write, or do arithmetic. These skills must be learned later. This is in contrast to the verbal ability that humans have had for over 100,000 years. The symbols used to represent specific numbers and words were only invented a few thousand years ago. These symbols are what are needed to read, write, and do arithmetic. This ability does not develop naturally. Rather, it is through repeated practice that certain circuits in the brain become wired and humans become proficient in all three. This is not easy for everyone. Because, it does not have a specific corner. In our brain, not everyone has the ability and opportunity to make connections. Almost six percent of children have problems learning numbers and letters. This is called a learning disability. The most confusing thing about this learning disability is that most of these children are very intelligent in other subjects. In fact, sometimes they grow up and become well despite this disability. This article discusses in detail the different types of learning disability and the diagnostic criteria for each. It also discusses the management strategies for learning disability.
