Abstract

One of the most important functions of our human brain is the process of thinking. Various disturbances in the thinking process have been identified and are grouped as thought disorder. The disturbances can occur in the form, stream or content of the thought process. The most commonly seen thought disturbance is a delusion. A delusion is a false, unshakable idea or belief that is out of keeping with a person’s educational, cultural and social background. This article covers the definition of a delusion, its various types and how they present in the real-world setting. Delusions like persecutory delusion, delusional misinterpretation, somatic delusion, delusion of reference, grandiose delusion, delusion of love and other type of delusions are explained in detail in this article. This article also discusses the examples of such delusions, the impact it causes on the persons who experience such delusions and the people around them and when to seek professional help.
