Abstract

20% of people worldwide suffer from anxiety disorders. Although there are many types of anxiety disorders, Generalized Anxiety Disorder is the most common type of anxiety disorder. This disorder affects women twice as often as men. Statistics show that one in four people between the ages of thirteen and eighteen suffer from this disorder. Unmarried people, people with poor physical health, people with low education, and women are more likely to develop anxiety disorders. People with this disorder experience fear, anxiety, and unnecessary worry about everything. They may also experience unnecessary fear and anxiety over even the most trivial problems in their daily lives. There will be a lot of worries about their family, finances, health, and future. This will lead to negative thoughts, anxiety, and excessive stress. This article discusses the pathophysiology of generalised anxiety disorder. It also discusses the diagnostic criteria, clinical presentation and various treatment modalities of this disorder.
