Abstract

Everyone has a self-identity about themselves. We evaluate ourselves based on this. Similarly, when we interact with others, we also judge how they evaluate us. Everyone's personality is formed based on our self-identity and how we control our emotions and impulses. Also, the biggest challenge of the human mind is dealing with emotions. Emotions are like waves in the ocean. There are various emotions like fear, anxiety, happiness, anger etc. Everyone's mind is an ocean. But, every ocean is different. Some oceans have more waves and some are calm. Not only emotions, but many impulses also keep forming in the human mind. The problems that mainly arise in self-identity and emotions are called personality disorders. One such thing is Borderline Personality Disorder. It is between severe mental illnesses (Psychosis) and moderate mental illnesses (Neurosis). This article discusses in detail the various characteristic traits of persons with Borderline personality disorder in relation to their emotions and identity, the way it leads to maladaptive functioning of the individual in day to day life. It also discusses the psychopathology and treatment strategies of Borderline personality disorder.
