Abstract

From young children to young adults, there are some visual media that promote violence in a celebratory mood. In this, it is increasingly impossible to predict who will be violent and who will resort to what kind of violence in the house or street we live in. To that extent, the impact of the media and the digital age are creating an environment where more and more people are turning into zombies’ day by day. The World Health Organization in its World Report on Violence and Health (WRVH) defines violence as "the intentional use of physical force or power against another person, whether intentionally or unintentionally, resulting in injury or death”. Anger is considered one of the basic emotion of humans. If such anger is not identified and regulated at the beginning, it turns into violence. This article discusses the various causes of violence in humans. The four broad subtypes of violence namely: physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence and domestic violence are elaborated in detail. Assessment of violence using ABC (Antecedent, Behaviour, and Consequences) analysis is described here. This article also discusses the various therapeutic modalities to prevent violence and aggression.
